Day of Ash: Lunch Outing

So we got out the door early today, because I knew I had a lunch outing during work. I wanted to make sure I didn’t have to work late to make up for the lost time. This also means, no pictures.

Ash did his “business” as he should, while I scraped the thin coat of ice off the car windows. We got in, and hit the road in a hurry. Once we got to our town, I saw a pack of dogs running loose. I already posted about that earlier. You can read about that here: http://www.aletterz.com/2016/01/26/opinion-loose-dogs/

I am still fretting about it, but I didn’t see any loose dogs on my way home.

Anyways, we got to work, and I think Ash knew we were early. He still went through the motions, but it was like he knew there would be no papers. Then suddenly, there is a smack sound on the ground and there are the papers!

We got there and all suited up just as the papers got delivered. Ash picked them up with glee and trotted into the building to hand them to security.

We got upstairs and I realized I forgot his water bottle at my desk yesterday. So we got my soda, and I got a cup of water. Suddenly, I am happy he likes to carry the soda. This way I can carry his water and have less chances of spilling it.

Then the work day starts, kind of. Ash is refusing to go under the desk today. Instead, he wants to lay next to the chair. I was feeling fairly well, so I am unsure of why. Then my gut cramps, and he sets his head on my leg.

Well, seems he can alert to my digestive issues now. I will have to figure out how to bring that one out more with out putting myself in more pain.

It passed fairly quickly, and he laid back down.

That is when one of my co-workers gets in. The Marine. Really good guy, that everyone was afraid I would have issues with. *eye roll*

Since Ash was not under the desk, Marine turned his fan on and pointed it at Ash. Ash turned so he was still right next to me, but facing the fan. He seemed to enjoy it, which just shows I really need to get a fan to clip under my desk.

The work day goes as it should, and we make it to lunch. On our way out, I decide to snap a picture of Ash. I pull my phone out, and suddenly he is hyper focused on my phone. Yes we are walking, but since he is still moving, I decide to test something.

Oh no… He’s posing. Ash has learned the phone means something, and he now poses for pictures.

Of course, I test this..

Sure enough. He is posing for pictures now. Well, that’s going to make getting “candid working” shots a bit hard.

We get to the place we are having lunch, and we get a couple “Amazing dog!” comments, but they are in true passing and the people didn’t try to stop us or expect a response. It was refreshing.

Of course we have no incidents, and all works out well. While standing outside after lunch talking with the agency representative, Ash sat next to me and let me lean against him like he should.

When I got back to the office and back to the cube, Ash was in a really good mood. I stomped my foot, one of our play motions, and he went into skitter paw mode. My cube mates never have seen that before and they busted up laughing. Which of course got Ash really going. He almost let out a play bark, but I saw it start and was able to stop him with him staying happy.

I then took his pack off, as I do have to have lessons that it’s ok to be happy when working, and he went under the desk.

Rest of the work afternoon was as expected. No issues, and sleeping Ash.

Now, on our way out something did happen, and it’s one reason why I really like this state.

We got all loaded up in the car, and Ash was in one of his.. Well..

Day of Ash: Lunch Outing

You can see, it was the “Let’s go.” modes. I rolled the windows down, just had the car started, and Ash popped his head out. An older lady saw him and started fawning over him. She didn’t touch him though and kept distance. Asking me a bunch of questions, and apologizing for keeping me. Said I could tell her to go away and leave. I decided to be nice. She asked a couple questions, I mentioned he was a service dog, and she stopped. I mean, she glanced at him and then made it real apparent that she was not interacting with him, but with me. At which point I said it was ok, he is off duty at the moment. She asked if she could say hello, I said yes, and Ash got some scratches through the window.

Day of Ash: Lunch OutingWe finally get on the road.

Rest of the trip is the normal. Ash sticking his head out the window at 45mph or lower, and sleeping otherwise.

When we get home, we hit the gravel road and the feedback whine starts. Those darn puppies.

Of course, he has to just have his puppy fix.

Anyways, from Ash and myself…

Day of Ash: Lunch Outing

Good night.
