HSUS MSN and Service Animals

I would first like to start by saying, I am against animal abuse. Animals are food in my eyes, they are tools, they can protect, and yes, even love. In the end though, they are PROPERTY.

Now, there are many evils of HSUS (Humane Society of United States), and there are a large group of people who know. These evils are everything from the fact that only 1% of total donations have ever made it to shelters, to waiting for days while an animal suffers so it looks worse then it was to start with.

In this rant though, I am going to focus on the Mandatory Spay and Neuter argument.

They are pushing for all animals to be spay and neutered, almost as soon as they are weaned from the mother.

Besides the fact that this will completely destroy the hormone development of the dog, there is a bigger issue.

If you spay and neuter all the animals, where will the next generation of service animals come from?

Why would you want to end the blood line of an animal that can only prove how well they will work by the time they are a year old? Sometimes, you want to wait until they are two years old before you know.

So, that dog you see in that picture here? If we followed what the HSUS wants, not only would we have changed his mental and physical development, but he would not even be alive. For his father is a service animal as well, and we would have had to neuter him.

So, before you send HSUS any support, think about where that person who needs help can get a service animal that they can trust and know.

So, you tell me “Get a dog to train as a service dog from the shelter.”  I for one, want to know the full genetics of my service animals, because I want to know if in four years if there may be a genetic health issue. Can’t get that from a shelter rescue because you don’t know the parentage nor the genetic ancestral legacy.  I could easily spend several years training a dog only to have it go blind – an issue that wouldn’t happen with health tested parents.

Now, if you are looking for an animal that can just be a pet and nothing more. Please, support your local shelter. Adopt from the shelter.

If you are looking for an animal that will perform a long term function. Make sure you support your breeders.
